I was drinking

in a bar

that shall remain nameless

in order that

we can protect

the innocent

and not so innocent alike

and so I can manage

to avoid a lawsuit

for defamation

even if wholly true

I’ve learned

a trick or two

along the way

and one way

to avoid problems

is to adhere

to a policy of silence

confessionalism

is just fine

but not when you get

tagged with a lawsuit

and end up paying

out the wazoo

keep it to yourself

and stay far away

from trouble

It’s far less glamorous

but there’s fewer headaches

and fewer unwanted surprises

in the mail down the road
