The street markets of Kuala Lumpur are said to be one of the best places for the first time visitors of Malaysia. These street markets have everything from fresh produce of fruits and vegetables to handicrafts, jewelleries and accessories. These street markets will definitely give you a feel of the authentic Malaysian culture. These markets are the perfect places to know more about the people of Malaysia rather than the commercialised malls. These street markets open as early as 7AM in the morning and remain open until midnight. Strolling these markets in the hot and humid weather can get uncomfortable so I recommend you to wear comfortable clothing and shoes. The markets are located in the centre of the city making it even more easily to reach here as most of the major bus operators ply in this part of the town.
Malaysia has one of the best bus transportation systems in the world precisely why the locals themselves leave their cars at home and prefer to travel by bus. The bus operators here are not only punctual about their timings but also provide the best services. The bus transit system ensures that you have point-to-point connectivity to the most important landmarks in Malaysia. Most buses arrive at an interval of 15 minutes and have tracking systems so that you can leave your hotel for the bus stop at the right time! The bus fares in Malaysia are some of the lowest in the world but there is absolutely no compromise on quality of service. You can book your bus tickets from redbus at discounted rates. It is a completely hassle free procedure and you can pay online too! Book your tickets and zip past the city at unbelievable prices.
Kasturi Walk
Kasturi Walk is one of the most visited outlets and is notoriously known for its fake label handbags, watches, t-shirts and shoes. This street market is however covered protecting you from the hot sun and the occasional rains. Make sure to buy the traditional Malay kite that resembles a beautiful butterfly. Although the shops in this street do not have a wide variety like those of Petaling Street and Central Market, the goods are reasonably priced. The vendors here are open to bargaining compared to the ones in those two markets. Kasturi Park also hosts light cultural performances that are in harmony with the Malay festivals. You can board the KL City Bus and get off at the Central Market, which just run alongside Kasturi Walk.
Taman Connaught Night Market

This place is highly popular amongst the local communities as well as tourists. The Market is open from 5:30 pm to 12:00 am. You can board bus no. T408 from Huang Tuah interchange that will take you directly to Taman Connaught. There are buses every 15 minutes and the ride time is hardly 10 minutes. The journey will cost you between RM5 to RM10.
