i awoke to feel the sun on my skin
as the birds who sing were listening in
peacefully
so i stood and walked amid the shade
beneath the trees in a hidden glade
as the wind passed warmly through
no mind for the pain of yesterday
i wasn’t thinking of it anyway
it went with the sun and moon
i drew the clouds along the sky
the humid air gone drifting by
the rain and storms yet fallen
and i swear i smelled the light
which filled my heart with pure delight
pressing against austere buildings
homes and hospitals built brick by brick
tall their timid and thin their thick
as automobiles drove somewhere
beside flowers rested in beds
of lavendar purples and vermilion reds
and i watched them watch me
and wrote of them
because i could
