My Grandmother's Garden

My Grandmother’s Garden

There’s a famous saying that Audrey Hepburn told us, that’s states: “to plant a garden, is to believe in tomorrow” and this is without question what my grandmother thinks, when she hears the word garden. She sees her garden as an opportunity, not as something that is unimportant. She daydreams about all the plants that are in her garden, and she relates her garden with life itself. Also the animals that live there, are part of this big family in my grandmother’s garden. The singing birds, with their joy they rejoice the full garden, and the hummingbird’s lightness transmit balance between the plants and the animas. Also the parakeets, who usually are confused with the plants, and their noise of desperation, oh that noise makes the garden full of life. During Winter of 2013, my grandmother was a little sick, and this was reflected on the plants and all the garden elements. The sadness predominated, until my Grandmother became healthy again, the red of the roses was more aggressive than before, the blue of the Blue Irises was calmer as ever, and the purple of the Bougainvillea’s was gripping. She strengthened the garden with her recuperation, the weak make her strong. New seeds were growing. My Grandmother showed us the meaning of planting a seed in the garden. She told us that a seed, is like hope, you should always believe in it, even in the darkest days, even when you think that that seed won’t grow. You need to believe in the seed for the seed to grow and be at its best.

There’s nothing better for our family, than to see our Grandmother at its best, there’s Joy in the sky, when she is happy as a butterfly. But on the night, when she goes to sleep and the dew caresses the skinny pieces of the green-yellowish grass, the garden feels alone. But the truth is, the garden lives not just thanks to my Grandmother, but also because of the believe of tomorrow. That is what keeps most of the animals alive, most of the flowers dazzling, and the spectrum of the garden flowing, so this energy is transmitted when you go and visit my Grandmother, she transmits you life itself, and you get caught of her sadness when she’s sad, and you get pure joy and happiness when she’s happy, oh it feels like the garden and my Grandmother  are the same.
