PLEADING WITH MY SAQI

No drink, O saqi, soothes the pain of love,
Intoxication too does no comfort my heart.

I am a human not an idol made of stone,
How to say how grief has torn me apart.

Till yesterday all were with my caravan,
But now it's only you and your tavern.

Break the mirror which reveals my distress,
There is nothing which reflects love's dream.

Tell the revelers to vanish ere I throw them
out,
Lost in merriment are they, laughing at my destiny.

O my saqi, tonight nothing here can console
me,
For my sake, why should your tavern, become
lonely?

In vain I have been making a mockery of
myself,
By coming here to forget my lovelorn tragedy.

No, O saqi, for God's sake, allow me to end it,
Be gracious and generous while drowning me quietly.
