AN ODE TO MELANCHOLIA, SADNESS AND DEPRESSION

Melancholia
Is like an addiction
For those who
Were never wanted
Even by the womb
Of motherly affection.

Sadness is a spirit
That haunts those who pine
For a loving smile at sunset
Warmth of love all the time.
Is there such a gift?

The bleeding wounded heart
Bathes in grief without a sigh
When there is no one nigh
Save her who had to depart
But who loves me from quite high.

Evening and night join to worsen
The ache of a passionate venom
Flowing deep within the blood inside
Increasing the awesome rising tide
Taking me back to The Tavern.

O, if you all could truly fathom me,
How great will be the misery
Ruining even your peace of mind
Destroying your faith in mankind
Your hope in the God of destiny!

The woes of sadness and despair
Are like a waiting lion's lair
Craving just a drink of true love
Poured by anyone who can bestow
A cup of fondness and care!

Anyone there? Anyone around?
Why is there silence, no sound?
Why is the Earth still going around?
Why is the broken heart still beating?
Why is this life soul-wrenching?
Why is the Carpenter still hiding?
