A DIFFERENT KIND OF DAY

For a change it was an undisturbed night,
With a cool breeze hushing me to sleep,
Just like an affectionate mother's lullaby,
Mixed with prayers for me right up to sunlight.
Summer sun's first rays gently bathed my face,
And I got up to face yet another day of rat race,
All these blessings of God encourage me, the pilgrim,
To clear my mind of anxiety, worry, stress and aches,
I know there will be several out there waiting for me,
To con me and trick me with flattery's pancakes,
Yet, in the name of Allah, I set out and get ready.
A cheerful letter from a caring friend from afar,
Welcomes me with smiles and encouragement,
I watch the morning light moving higher from the star,
And pray to God Almighty for everything to be pleasant.
The night had been grim with its sudden power breaks,
Yet, in the lawn, I found comfort-causing rest,
A talk with my time-tested friend Shazi,
Also played its due role in making me sleep easy.
So, let my Almighty God make the coming hours cheerful,
And protect me from tiffs, rows, and lurking mischief,
May He also shield me from evil and give me patience,
In order for the future plans to move on and be successful.
I have many miles to travel in order to meet my loving woman,
And may this grand day become my unravelling beacon,
We -- human beings -- must have to struggle and work hard,
And at the same time blend our goals with Lord God's intention.
It has been a very good morning today after several tiring ones,
And I wish deep inside that it ends with satisfaction,
Along with a feeling of spurring accomplishment,
And filled with peace and quietude and righteous action.
Every day comes and goes but today it looks different,
As after several years it woke me with a serene softness,
The elated feeling that comes with it has boosted me a lot,
And I am hopeful that it will stay thus, full of warmth and brightness.
And I pray that this day also spreads hope far and wide,
For the thousands, who, like me are battling a huge tide,
May God most gracious guide us onwards towards harmony,
And instead of division make hearts embrace amity.
