                                                                    For Dad

A Finer man I have not met,

And lessons taught, I won't forget,

His love of family,in joy and pain,

His strength of spirit, and what was to gain,

   By being fair, respecting all,

Withoutblame or pity when hard times called.

To laugh and joke, to embrace each day,

As precious and dear, that was his way,

Though proud, pride never held him back,

And courage not ever did he lack,

Forever thankful for what he had,

No finer man than this, my dad.

Take flight this final message please,

   On angels wings please send,

Thanks Daddy for making me your daughter,

And for being my best friend

I wrote this poem to read at my fathers funeral in 2000.  He had 2 strokes... first not so serious, second he lost his ability to talk and was paralyzed on right side.  It did not stop him.  He insisted getting speach therpy even after the insurance canceled it he paid for it out of his own pocket.  He made his own bed and did his own laundry.  He never gave up...I know ...I lived with him for 7 years

He was an inspiration to anyone who met him....He did have one last stroke that I feel caused him to give up... too much work to start all over again.....but he died like he lived with all 5 grown children at his bedside....he waited for all of us to show up to say our goodbys.  An extremely peaceful death I'll never forget..I think of him every day and when life's hardships come my way I think to my self how would Daddy handle this....
