The lost treasure of friendship.
Callie, a beautiful rough collie, was laying down under the shadow of a willow tree, resting her head on her owner’s legs. The sun was starting to set and all the other dogs were running around the park, it was quite a nice evening and it felt like a regular Saturday.
But then, a gust wind exploded through the branches and Callie could hear her owner screaming, standing up and running to the opposite direction, it soon started to feel chilly and so she started running too, but she couldn’t remember which way was home. She then could feel the water approaching and she tried to call her owner but he was nowhere to be seen, the water flowed past the blackened willow and around her paws and she kept running until the white wave busted forward and she was forced to close her eyes shut.
The next morning, it felt like waking up from a deep sleep. She couldn’t figure out where she was, her fur was dry and there were birds circling the sky, there weren’t any sounds, just silence. She walked and walked and walked trying to find Oscar, her owner, but the Earth felt empty. It wasn’t until six hours later that she heard a weak whimper coming from under the debris of a crumbled house. She went to where the sound came from and with help of her paws and snout she found another dog, a small and lonely pug, crying in the dark.
‘‘What’s the matter with you? Why are you crying?’’ Demanded Callie as she helped him get out.
‘‘Aren’t you scared? Everything collapsed, Sally and Robert are probably dead and I can’t remember when was the last time I cuddled with them’’ The pug stuttered, he seemed worried and upset, his breathing was shortened and he was still shaking from distress.
Callie hadn’t thought about the possibility of Oscar being dead, she just assumed he had gone home and was waiting for her, the pug was probably just dramatizing everything.
‘‘What exactly happened? I just remember a lot of water, I don’t like water. Oscar never taught me how to swim.’’
‘‘I was sleeping when it all happened, Sally and Robert were watching movies in our bedroom when he just stood up and started screaming and then the glass from the windows broke and all I can remember is not being able to breathe.’’
‘‘Do you really think they’re dead?’’ Callie asked, with her face facing down and drawing tiny circles with her paws on the ground.
‘‘They would’ve come for me if they weren’t, they love me.’’ The pug answered before sitting down next to Callie. Callie thought that the pug was right, Oscar would’ve come for her otherwise.
‘‘So, now what are you going to do?’’
‘‘I don’t know, I still don’t understand why something so terrible would happen, I guess I’ll just look for a new home.’’
‘‘Can I come with you?’’
Callie looked down to her new little friend, he seemed nice enough and she didn’t feel like being alone. The sadness started to fade away, as they both began to understand that from now on it’d be just the two of them but that was fine, friendship could surely beat the end of the world.
