The Past Revisited
A trip back to the north
A need to bleed journeyed me forth
Conclave of past drifted memories
Laid on my mind like the heavy snow
on the pine trees
What answer did I expect to be found?
Hard to believe I still find it in me to be so naive
To think I might somehow get back up
After being so down.
Talked to God the same in Wisconsin
Snowy nights and northern lights
Left me vacant inside
For I had long ago died
In the north, same as the south
Just the past...revisited
Blue-eyed ladies, with future love maybes
Danced with me and Jack Black all around my brain
Just the same, and just once more,
I showed them the door
Listened alone again, as the wind,
Howled out from the past,
An echoed name
And the distance shortened, from a thousand,
Now to less than sixty miles away
Somehow, only my mind was allowed to stay
The past that brought a zillion words and a trillion tears
Revisited, like a memory storm, left a heart, for another day
Another day and another line
Black pen to white paper, throws down another rhyme
This heart cannot decipher, the meaning written there
Still just the same, time to pay the piper, accept the blame
This past revisited, says "so glad you came"
Nothing seems solved, t'was all ventured nothing gained
And all that evolved, is still a servant indentured, a slave to this pain
Plastic smiles for a thousand miles
Watch as I bleed, ask what I need
And offer that today is tomorrow, yesterday
Get up, get on, get off
Whispers in my ear,"please stay"?
And as I drive south
Another swig of Jack Black rinses my mouth
Tells me that once again, I'm running away
Onwards towards another day,
Of the past...revisited
