When the war is over
Another one just as quickly begins
When the war is over
We still continue living out our sins
When the war is over
There’s nothing left but question marks and debris
When the war is over
Dog tags and body bags as far as the eye can see
When the war is over
We ask ourselves, “Was it really worth all the pain?”
When the war is over
Everything we took so long to build gets washed down the drain
When the war is over
The skies are still gray and we can’t feel the warmth of the sun
When the war is over
The destruction and devastation are still far from done
When the war is over
We pick up the pieces but they never fit together quite the same way they did once before
When the war is over
In the sky white flags are ripped to shreds by the hawks that still freely soar
When the war is over
We bury our regrets and painfully pray
When the war is over
We just hope we survive to see one more day
When the war is over
We realize that freedom comes with a pretty hefty fee
When the war is over
The battles still go on between you and me
When the war is over
Everyone has lost and no one has won
When the war is over
Is when the real war has begun
