The order of things

I joined up when I was a young man

With hopes of glory and more

I sit here in tears now an old boy

Disgusted with who I was before

They told me that this was all their fault

They told me I owed my homeland

They told me to round up the enemy

They told me to give them a brand

At the start I was more than willing

To go along with the view of the times

But one day I knew we would answer

For those acts they were terrible crimes

Of the children we did not distinguish

From their mothers or fathers in turn

The strong we could use, work them, abuse

The rest they were brought out to burn

Society has judged me correctly

For I embrace what I have took from this war

Any punishment given is nothing to what I live in

The knowledge of the hell i'm bound for
