Butterfly

A butterfly spied a soul sitting all alone.
A poor little caterpillar, propped up on a stone.
The butterfly flew down, to talk to the little thing,
to try and explain to him that it was the time for wings.

"Come now little Caterpillar, It has become your time
to change your loathsome self into a beautiful butterfly.
It's time to leave this ground, it's time to sprout your wings,
It's time you let go of all these silly Earthly things."

"I don't think so, Butterfly. You see, I'd rather die
than leave this beautiful Earth and launch into that sky.
Why fly into the horizon? It holds such scary things.
I'd rather stay on this ground than sprout your dirty wings."

"Silly little caterpillar. don't you understand
what will become of your life if you stay anchored on the land?
Although the horizon does hold so many horrible dangerous things.
Don't you see how more horrible it is to never spread your wings?"

"No beautiful butterfly, I am quite content.
If there is no ascending, then there can be no descent.
leave me now butterfly. Spread your amazing wings.
Fly into your sky, and bask in all it brings.
But I, sir, am destined to stay just where I am.
I will stay here til I die, right here on the land."

"Fine then Caterpillar, I will fly away.
But the day that you stop learning is due to come one day.
And once you stop learning, that is when you die.
so one way or the other you will end up in the sky."

The butterfly flew far away, and left the caterpillar alone
sitting where he found him crawling on it's stone.
The caterpillar was true to his word, he stayed right there on the land.
He refused to fly into the sky, and leave this ball of sand.
For many years the caterpillar was happy not to fly.
He loved to live on the ground, and never envied the sky.
But suddenly he noticed, nothing he saw was new.
Every pathway he could walk was one he had been through.
Even when he explored, for hours he could not find
a single thing on this Earth to grow or expand his mind.

"Woe is me, this world is dead. I have no more happiness here.
I lost my chance of kissing the sun due to all my stupid fears.
To go back now, to change my mind... I would give anything.
To have listened to the butterfly, and learned how to grow those wings!
But I simply cannot handle life anymore on this land.
I guess its up to me to take my life into my own hands."

And with these words the Caterpillar climbed high into a tree.
He climbed so high that the sky was the only thing he could see.
He wanted to end it all and jump straight down.
and end his horrible life by sailing into the ground.
So he crawled onto the tip of a limb, and fell into the sky
but found himself suspended, cocooned on a branch up high.
And suddenly, the cocoon burst, only seconds after it became,
And the caterpillar popped out, looking nothing of the same.
The Caterpillar had become a beautiful yellow butterfly,
and he stretched out his wings, and flew out into the sky.
After soaring for a moment, he ran into one of his kind.
And he noticed suddenly that it was that old butterfly
who had once tried to teach him why he had to fly.

"Why hello my little friend, I told you that if you didn't fly
then one day from never learning you would slowly die.
and from this death that you caused, you ended up in the sky.
Because your soul belonged up here, and your body had to die."

And so together the butterflies flew into the horizon
in search together of all the scary things,
to teach them so much more about their lives,
and to give fulfillment to their wings
