Saint Joseph's Certainty At Nazareth
That Summer's weather was extraordinary,
with many local problems to repair.
At dusk, each workday, after Jesus put
the tools away, and closed the shop's door, Mary
of Magdala came for a casual walk.
But busybodies had no cause to talk.
Two adolescents---hand in hand, barefoot---
they had a special friendship, more profound
than guesses plumb and speculations sound.
I knew my stepson well enough to say
that he and his heart's friend kept chastity
between them at all times, love pure and fair,
and no sin to degrade the ministry
that he would be called to, some future day.
