Superheroes Of Today

Odes/Tributes They don't wear a cape,
or posses any powers of might.
They don't fly through the air,
or fear any kryptonite.
They don't drive magic cars,
or live in a hidden cave.
They are the superheroes of today,
by simple being brave.
They have no secret identities,
so them, no one can see.
They live among all of us,
protecting you and me.
They're not in any comic book,
or in a Saturday morning cartoon.
They are in precincts, ambulances, firehouses,
in fighter jets, ships and platoons.
They have sworn to keep us safe,
by putting their lives on the line.
They don't do it for a medal,
or to have a moment to shine.
They fight crime and evil,
and battle smoke and fire.
They defend our Nation in war,
and never seem to tire.
Many give their lives,
for their country's glory.
Too often they are forgotten,
no one ever hears their story.
Its taken a mighty tragedy,
for us to finally say,
That firefighters, EMT's, police and military,
are the SUPERHEROES OF TODAY!
