Winter Awakens

Wildlife/Nature After months of slumber,
from the nap its been taking.
The air turns crisp,
as winter awakens.
It makes itself known,
covering the mornings with frost.
Winter takes over,
as autumn is lost.
The smell of snow,
is all around.
As the first little snowflakes,
touch the ground.
Animals take cover,
or slumber the season away.
Waiting to emerge again,
on that first spring day.
Smoke is seen rising,
from many rooftops.
People try to keep warm,
as the temperatures drop.
For a few months,
this season chills to the core.
Then its reign is over,
and winter sleeps once more.
