Only A Fool Would Believe

Hope is only a joke,
when it laughs right in your face.
Conviction, only senseless,
when you feel so out of place.

Wishes seem so silly,
when rarely, do they come true.
Confidence, no matter,
when it only goes askew.

Expectations, merely a glimmer,
when tossed so carelessly aside.
Faith is only irrational,
when you sense you've already died.

With things the way they are,
its simple to deceive.
When nothing is ever promised,
only a fool would believe.
