Caged so long-
withering wings
feathers fall to
papered bottom
amidst old news
of yesterdays past
door
left unlatched
she nudges it open
curiously
with pointed beak
freedom awaits
beyond steel bars
of her captivity
~~~take flight sweet bird~~~
she flees
stretching wings
long unfurled
she roams
she ~~~glides
twisting upon breezes
of liberty
fluttering
unrestricted
she enjoys every moment-
while it lasts
for home awaits
safety
care
shelter
love
behind squared walls
of metal rungs
tranquility
in all that's familiar
she ~~~glides
through open gate
landing upon her perch
coos contentedly
lowers her head
and preens her feathers.
