My mother has a room with two complete walls specifically for the purpose of storing her great variety of high heels. She has from golden or silver sparkly ones for parties to very professional-looking ones for her job. Before that, she used to store them right outside her closet, in a shelf with about 6 levels, until they didn’t fit there anymore. I don’t remember a time in my life when she hasn’t used high-heels on a daily basis. When I was a kid and I heard someone come into the house, I waited for the “click-clack” of her shoes to reverberate around the house in order to be sure it was her. Before I had ever worn high-heels I had really underestimated her ability to go long periods of time with them. Now, whenever I wear them I can’t help but question why she or anyone would put themselves through that. I can barely go 3 or 4 hours without wanting to sit down and starting to walk in a weird way. I have seen her try on 5-inch high heels and buy them after classifying them as “really comfortable”. She can go a whole 12 hours or more in high heels without looking even a little bit bothered. She can, without a problem, go shopping, to work, to the movies, to parties, to family reunions, or stand up and dance for hours at a party wearing high-heels. She doesn’t wear them literally every day though. On weekends, when she goes grocery shopping, she doesn’t. People often comment on her height. They say she looks very tall, imposing, like she’s an important businesswoman or has an important position in a company. Some have actually guessed her profession, a lawyer, just by looking at her. However, the ones who say this are usually people who have only interacted with her on a professional level or have only met her once or twice at some sort of event. My mother is actually not much taller than me. Maybe that’s the reason why she likes them so much. Whenever I tell her I have a formal event the first thing she asks me after I show her any posible outfits is “what heels are you wearing with that?”. If I even suggest not wearing heels somewhere she deems worthy of them, she calls me crazy. She has a great fashion sense.
