Gifts of the Holy Ghost
Seven gifts the Holy Spirit is
Pleased upon God's childre to bestow,
They impart high virtues, joy and peace,-
Use these gifts and let them glow and grow.
WISDOM is perfection's plenitude,
It will naught but only God desire,
It adores Him as the highest good,
And for God is set its heart on fire.
UNDERSTANDING corresponds to faith,
Grasps and penetrates faith's mysteries,
Intuition, - fortified by grace
Lends discernment what to spurn or seize.
PRUDENCE, COUNSEL - lofty assets are
Needed at times dismal, dark and bleak,
Keen perception goes with it au par,
That will always first God's glory seek.
FORTITUDE gives strength to do the Will
Of the Lord, our Father, trustingly,
That He will His promises fulfll,
With His plans full of benignity.
KNOWLEDGE does enable to discover
What the Will of God may truly be,
And the soul knows that this great true lover
Does desire reciprocity.
PIETY is happy to obey.
God, our Father and His Holy Word,
Who is truth, the light and our way,
Blessed is man who does obey the Lord.
FEAR OF GOD means reverence and awe
Of His grandeur and His majesty,
For the creature with so many a flaw
Shall behold the Holy Trinity.
Blessed are these glorious gifts indeed,
For men downcast, down and out and lost,
Lost humanity has so much need
Of these great gifts of the Holy Ghost,
