Blood and Water
Blood and water spurted forth
From our blessed Savior's side,
And became the well spring source
Of the Spirit's light.
A new Convenent was sealed
By these beaming effluents,
And the prophesies fulfilled
With two sacraments.
Baptism and Eucharist
For the Savior's flock of faith,
Its Redeemer and High Priest,
And our source of grace.
And no bone was broken here,
But two streams of light
Called forth by a soldiers spear
From the Savior's side.
The two stream rays heal and purge
Nurture and sustain,
Waters cleansing feed and surge
Like in drought the rain.
Wondrous the significance
Divine mercy is revealed,
By the thrusting of a lance
All the world is healed.
Roses do replace the thorn
And His saints abound,
From a spear the church was born
On the pagan ground.
The centurion is immersed
Grafted now into the vine,
And his destiny reversed
By the bundless love divine.
Water with its healing might
Flows abundantly
And the blood from the Lord's side
Sets the sinner free.
Jesus wondrous Pelican
Nurturing its brood,
Son of God and son of Man
Feeding with His blood.
Opened was the source of grace
By a lance's thrust,
Praise the Lord give thanks and praise
Him alone do trust.
May His Mercy"s two-fold beams
All the world embrace
Praise the Savior that redeems
Praise His boundless grace.
