Friendly Shopowner

This is as true a story as No news is Not always Good News by my most wanted writer on the site the one and only Mr Bernard Shaw aka Austromate. My pet dog 11 years of age is not keeping well since the last one month or so. He just refuses to eat however delicious the food may be. Its food intake came down to zero three days ago.The vet who had treated him earlier wasn't home so I trudged to the veterinary medicine store nervously boarding a cycle-rickshaw.

The kind shop owner a nice man of 40 or so enquired the welfare of my dog. I told him that I didn't want to put the dog through any suffering by way of injections. Oral medicine I requested. He directed me to the vet who had made the verandah of the shop his chamber. The vet prescribed 3-4 oral medicines. There was no improvement after two days.He had charged me Rs.150/- for the consultation. This time he advised that there wasn't any option other than put him on Dextrose-saline and push the medicines intravenously. I had to agree  since a valuable life was at stake.Although I didn't wish to inflict more suffering to the creature I asked the shopowner to suggest the best available man who could arrange for the administration of the medicines at my home. It would be expensive but... well... I bought medicine and equipment worth over Rs.2000/- and the "treatment" began on 28th afternoon.I kept my fingers crossed.

The "assistant" was quite adept to the dog and also suggested a medicine on his own. I didn't argue or differ in opinion. After all nurses must be trusted more than doctors. My neighbours told me that it was a ploy to extract money... This morning I visited the vet shop and met the shopowner let me call him Mr. Bheem. He was teary eyed almost on the verge of crying. I stood in front of him trying to find out what the matter was.It must be the passing away of some loved one. I waited and he broke into tears.I stepped outside and waited for the vet to arrive. A new prescription was made out @ Rs.150/- , I bought the medicines and came home spending another Rs.500/- apart from Mintoo's fees @ Rs.250/- per visit.

I may complete this piece.. and again I may not. I just hope that my dearest Groggy is better in a day or two else...... I quote Austromate "No News is not Always Good News"  Frown Plese do put in a silent prayer for Groggy... He's dumb you know ....
