Sedate Mill

One dark silent night
In a little bed
Were three blue cotton sheets
And a little head

Eyes so wide and green
Skin so soft and pale
Where nightmares were never seen
And boats on all four walls with upstanding sails

There’s such a big solemn world outside
Where all the bright stars sing
Autumn leaves and ground collide
and all those little things

Thomas the tank engine slippers
such a perfect fit
Up goes the zipper
Of his runaway kit

Crisp blue silent air
Everywhere too still
Owls in trees made to stare
Little one against the mill

Blanket he pulled from his sac
Then wrapped himself warm
Not ready to turn back
And wanted to stay till dawn

Father arrived and found his little boy
by the old grey sedate mill
As he picked up his little bundle of joy
And rested him back under the covers so solemn and still

Little eyes closed and warm
Images running through his head
Dreams are always born
In this little ones head

Maybe another night
When the world is sound asleep
Little boy so bright
Can go on another adventure, all his to keep

for now little one so true
Rest your little eyes
and just no that i love you
For I have told no lies

So rest your little head
and wipe away your tears
Even though I’m dead
I will still chase away your fears

Don’t come looking by the sedate mill
where i had always held you closest
Just look outside your window sill
And you will no longer feel your loneliest

For you see, the moon is my smile
And the stars are my eyes
I am not even as far as a mile
but right here by your side
