The kind squirrel
I remember when everything was bright and warm, when people walked among this halls and they used to throw food at me. There were students with books and always rushing to their classes, but when they rested in the benches near our tree they took pictures of me, and I used to smile at them. But now I smile because we are still alive, after all that had happened. Just out of nowhere, the days started to get colder, and so on my fur couldn’t handle that kind of cold, I was only a tiny squirrel! I felt there wasn’t anything more horrible than that. But it was only the beginning because after the first wave of cold, more than half of population were frozen to death, everything turned to ice, rivers, lake and oceans, also the earth and soil we walked. After that we only have what we had saved before the ice age, there weren’t any resources, food or water for everyone. I walked from town to town for a long time, from door to door. Only to found more selfish animals with the belief of not saving anyone but themselves. But I believed that if everyone worked together we could get through this. But every time I said “Hey there, I know we are in hard times. But if we work together and search for food and share what we have, we can the situation better for everyone”. They just closed the door on me. First there was the Silly Duck, he lived in the pond, he knew he was going to die, but he didn’t care and only stayed in the iced pond, to silly to notice. Then there was the Selfish Cat, she didn’t want to share anything from the food she had, and because of her all of the other cats had died of hunger, she’ll die probably of obesity.
One day me and my son found a small burrow, we didn’t know why it was forsaken, when we entered we realized it wasn’t a small burrow it was an oasis for this deserted place, fill with food, water and all kind of groceries. We ate moderated to not spend all the food by greed. By the past of weeks we didn’t felt lost anymore and a needy peacock arrive asking for food, we happily gave him some and then he left to give it to his family too. A few days later he arrived again with food to thank us and more animals asking for food, so we helped them too. We created a nice place with food and by the past of the weeks most of the animals that lived there returned and came out hungry from their houses and places. Everyone was happy and healthy again, it almost seemed that the sun will go out soon.
