A Day of Rest.

Today Sunday is a day of rest. I was also told that God made Heaven and Earth in six days and on the seventh day he rested. I am told that Sunday is a day of rest. Now I will ask you all a serious question. “Who is kidding who?” Most of my working life I have spent in hospitals. For me to have a Sunday free from duty was indeed a very rare occasion. Nearly all hospital staff work Sundays.

What about the Police Forces throughout the world, how often do they get a free Sunday?

The Armies, Navies, and Air-forces do they get Sundays free they didn’t at least not when I was in the services. Church Parade with some young officer Padre held a church service every Sunday it was compulsory to attend.

Not many cooks, chefs de cuisines get a free Sunday. Hotel staff perhaps I cannot really answer for this branch. I am prepared to take a bet that not many hotel staff get Sundays free.

Pilots and air crew on civilian flights especially long distance are also at a disadvantage they between flight may be stuck in some foreign country where Sunday is another normal day.

How many people can you think of that have to work on the day of rest? In nearly all walks of life one will find that much too many are at this disadvantage.

Another thing while I am at it who chose Sunday, as the day of rest, would not Mondays have been a better choice or say Fridays? Even small children are not exempted from certain duties on Sundays. Morning service with parents who say they are firm believers. Sunday afternoon Sunday school where tales of suffering are fed into delicate ears. The murder of a man by hanging him on a cross with two other men both known criminals is this a day of rest for young innocent children. I think not and pictures and images on the walls of the Church always put an unknown fear into my childish mind.

I say let us really have a day of rest not just on Sundays but on any day of the week that is to ones own advantage not a day put forward by the management because it suits some weird plan that only they know about.

Citizens awake rise up and claim your God given right to have a day of rest a day that we are told was good enough for a Christian God it should be our right to also have a day of rest. Looking back to all of the Sundays or days of rest that I have missed in my long life what about some compensation from any body that is supposed to deal with such complaints. If you too feel the same way then do join me in this my complaint to whatever Ministry or Government department that is involved after all Fair Play is also something that I sadly miss in this mixed up world that we are forced to live in.
