Total Recall.

I had this feeling that today would be a special day. After breakfast I went into the garden no weeding to be done it looked like rain so I put off watering the garden until the late afternoon. I decided to take a walk into Fairyland. My steps took me to the old oak tree. Something was different then I saw the mushroom it was big, bigger than any mushroom I had ever seen. Walking over to the mushroom I heard a voice say, “Sit in the mushroom and you will have total recall.” I decided to sit in the overgrown mushroom. The mushroom enveloped me like a comfortable armchair. I literally sank into it. A strange feeling came over me and I wondered whether the mushroom was one of those that produce hallucinations. The voice sounded again in my head. “Sit back, relax, you will have total recall.

Then I was hurtling into space past the moon, past the planets, past the Sun. Now I could see galaxies of stars hurtling past. On and on until in front of me was a vast void. I had come to the end of the universe. My mushroom stood still and I watched our universe delving deep into the void. I realised that the universe as we know it was expanding. The voice again, “Relax you will have total recall.” Then I was on my way back to where I had started. Galaxy after galaxy swept past with me in the middle. Then the mushroom stopped its moving. I saw our Sun and the planets with the moon then I opened my eyes and was in the clearing again. Relax sit still you will have total recall.

A few minutes rest then we were off again the moon swept by, as did Mars, Venus, Neptune, Mercury and the other planets that make up out part of the Milky Way. Then the mushroom was moving at great speed directly into the Sun. I saw protuberances spurting high into the void of space around the Sun. I closed my eyes thinking that no human could possible go directly into the terrific heat of the Sun and live to tell about it. The voice again, “Relax you will have total recall.” The mushroom with me sitting in it went directly through the Sun. I felt no heat no discomfort I was relaxed. I saw streams of hydrogen seeming fighting on the Suns surface. I was not frightened just curious. Passing through the Sun the mushroom headed for Mars. I could see the planet Mars getting bigger and bigger. Her again I passed through the surface of Mars. I was able to tell all of the mineral assets of Mars. The comforting thought that one-day soon Humans would be walking on its surface.

I went through each of the planets and found to my surprise that I now had complete knowledge of all of the planets and of their mineral assets. One again the voice, “Relax you will have total recall. The mushroom now rushed through space towards the earth. I found myself sitting in the mushroom. Now another voice, a voice I recognised. “Mr. Shaw you may now get out of the chair it has served its purpose.” It was Her Majesty Queen Feeanna. “You are wondering why I sent you on this journey. The position of Rector at the Fairy University needs to be filled. I have watched you over the years and I know that you will be able to fill the position.” “Your mind is as enquiring now as it was when we first met.” “Now you have knowledge of the Universe space holds no more secrets from you.” “You will be able to converse with all of the staff at the University.

To say I was flabbergasted at the thought of taking over the Fairy University would be to put things mildly. According to Her Majesty I now had more knowledge than most of the Professors. I decided to accept the position of Rector. My day is now fully occupied as I am at the University from early in the morning until late at night. This is the most interesting work that I have ever undertaken; I am a very happy man. Bern
