Empty House.
The old house stands empty. Its last owner according to village gossip had been murdered. After the Police Investigation it was a heart attack. Village gossip cannot be done away with as easy as that. For the villagers he had been killed in his bed, no matter what the Police said.
Some of the local boys decided to look for themselves no one had been inside the house since the Police locked and sealed the doors and windows. Seals were not going to stop a few determined boys from having a look around to see what evidence they could find. Who knows perhaps they can find the real murderer.
Arrangements were made for Saturday night, all agreed to be at the house at ten o’clock in the evening. All were to bring an electric torch and whatever else they needed to solve this terrible crime. For in the local villager’s minds the owner had been killed and no Police were going to stop them from proving this.
Saturday came around and six young men all armed with a powerful torch met at the pre arranged back door. All was quiet no traffic was to be seen or heard and the night promised to be a quiet night. “Did anyone bring an old bunch of keys?” were the first words spoken. “Yes we have keys from the collection that my old Granddad collected over the years. Never know when they will come in handy were his words whenever he was given and old key from someone.
One lad tried the door to his surprise the door opened it was not even locked. Quietly they went into every room on the downstairs floor. Nothing unusual was to be seen, dust was everywhere this old house had not been cleaned since the owner had been murdered. Upstairs they went here again every room was entered and looked over for evidence of foul play. Nothing was to be seen everything was in its place. Then came the owner’s bedroom opening the door they shone their torches all around the room then the bed in which the owner had died. Suddenly the torches gave out no more light and from the bed a movement suddenly the bed clothes rose into the air and a low moaning came from the bed. The boys ran to the door to try to run down the stairs no one had expected this. Was it a Ghost? Had the owner come back from the dead. The following Monday the boys were called to the local Police Station all were formally charged with breaking and entering the dead man’s property. It all came out in the local court. The Police had heard of the boys plan to get into the house to prove that the owner had been murdered and not suffered from a heart attack. To teach the boys a lesson one of the Policemen had volunteered to lie in the bed and give the boys a fright. It might teach them leave Police business to the Police and not go off on their own to solve so called crimes.
The Magistrate that tried the boys had difficulty not to laugh at the expressions on the boys faces. The outcome was the boys were told to mind their own business in future and the case was dismissed. I attended court so that I the scribbler could report it to you all. I know that you would not break into an empty house to solve a crime, or would you? Bern
