You called
and used some trigger words that sent me to a scary place
A place
where demons and shadows hide, there’s ghosts I cannot face.
You thought
I’d be sympathetic and easily take your side,
But
the trigger echoed in my brain and my heart began to cry.
I cried
for all the time I lost and all the wasted years,
The trigger
it bought sadness and conjured up old fears.
You and I
aren’t buddies; our friendship is raw and sore,
I will not
have your trigger words haunting me anymore.
