One day this story will end until then all I can do is watch
From this far away place you pushed me and kept me,
Never letting me too close to you, or your new life,
I see the way you look at him, the way you hold his hand,
It doesn’t make any difference because I see it in him alone,
The way he treats you behind closed doors, just another girl.
It angers me to know I can’t stop it from happening,
To know that your too blind to see and too deaf to listen,
My words fall on deaf ears; you ignored me for him,
He asked you to stop talking to me and you did,
He gets you to wear different clothes, make up,
Even to stop being your kind, gentle self.
Why can you not see what is standing before you,
He just stands and glares as I watch on helplessly,
Until the day he slips up, makes a mistake,
And trust me when he does I will be there,
Not to say I told you so but to help you up,
And help you remember the person you used to be.
As I watch I see the bruises you try to hide,
They aren’t visible but etched deep in your soul,
Your eyes tell me everything even if you don’t want to,
I see all the hurt and pain and worry he puts you through,
But that day will come, when you’re the strong one,
Just keep on pretending not to know my name.
The sun was shinning, the rays of light reflected your beauty,
Then as you smiled at me, spun around, he stood before you,
Called you a bitch, for smiling at me, then raised his hand
And beat you down, I stepped in and picked you up, dusted you off
Then waited for the fireworks to end, I stood to one side,
And watched the true you step up to bat.
You looked him in the eyes and told him where to go,
He swung for you again; you stood there as crowds gathered,
You used all your strength and anger to hurt his pride,
Beaten to the ground, you looked at him, grinned then
Said “where you belong” I knew my girl would come through,
She always did, and then at that second she was mine again.
A people walked away, no one helped him up, and they knew the truth.
As I stood there smiling she ran into my arms, I thought it was a
Fairytale ending, just as I always wished for in the story,
Then she took my hand, looked deep into my eyes, smiled
Leant forward and our lips join as if we had been together forever.
