Your Puppet

Your Puppet

I’m done being your little puppet,
Always telling me what to do,
Always doing things your way,
As if my life belonged to you.

I’ll never be that puppet
You always hoped I would be.
I’m tired of all the strings you pulled,
Trying to control me.

You swore you’d never hurt me,
All those times before,
But the second I came back
And walked through that door,
All you did was hurt me
So much worse than before.

All the head games you would play
Made me think I was to blame.
Why didn’t I notice
You were still playing
Your same stupid game?

Telling me I’m crazy,
That you turned your life around.
Too bad I lost my sight
I lost the woman I had found,
And now all of us lies broken
And scattered on the ground.

You blamed me for your mistakes
When you looked for someone new.
But somehow that someone
Quickly turned to two.

How many times did you twist the truth
Until I questioned what I knew?
How many times did I say I’m sorry
For something done by you?

You made me doubt my own eyes,
My memories and my mind.
While I kept searching for the person
I thought I’d left behind.

I kept believing your promises
Because I wanted them to be true.
I kept thinking if I tried harder,
I could somehow get through to you.

But love shouldn’t need strings.
It shouldn’t come with commands.
It shouldn’t leave someone begging
For a heart they used to understand.

So I’m done being your puppet.
There’s nothing left to pretend.
You can pull every string you want—
But they’re no longer attached at my end.

You wanted someone you could control,
Someone who would never leave,
Someone who would swallow every lie
And still choose to believe.

Maybe once,
That person was me.

But she isn’t anymore.

The strings are cut.

And for the first time,
I’m walking through that door
Without you.
