One thing that I definitely remember from my childhood about my grandfather is that no matter what day of the week it was or what was the purpose of our visit to his house, whenever we got there we always found him in the same old chair watching TV with his feet up over a cooler, a side from his chair he had a little table that had a whiskey bottle, a glass filled with ice and a 2 liter Coke, he used to drink all day but I never realized it and I don’t know how the guy could actually drink all day and don’t get super wasted although that kind of explains why he died when he was only 67, my father told me that his dad (my grandfather) actually drank 1 bottle of whiskey per day for about 8 to 10 years. He passed away on December 12 of 2004 so I actually do not remember him as good as I would like to, but I definitely remember he smell of whiskey that was so iconic of my grandfather. And even though he drank a bottle per day I never actually saw him tipsy even once and for the people that have actually drank whiskey before and know that whiskey no matter what brand is it (by the way my grandfather’s brand was Black Label) is not a drink to play with, whiskey can get you really drunk really quickly. The best thing about my grandfather, related to the way he used to drink is that he was the best host I have ever known, no matter if you were part of his family or a total stranger coming to his house for the first time, he always poured you a drink even though you didn’t ask for one (obviously if you were old enough to drink, that is why I never had the chance to sit down and had a drink with the old man) and he always had a smile in his face trying to make small talk to get you to feel comfortable around him and in his house of course, my father told me that if you wanted to date any of my aunts ( mi father has 3 sisters) you had to go to my grandfather’s house and sit down to have a drink with him so he would let you go out with anyone of his daughters. Everyone talks wonderful things about him and I would have love to get to meet him better but I’m sure that wherever he is, he took his bottle with him.
