Underwood

Sit here in the window

Mind drifts into the void

A UNIVERSE CREATED

To explore, one can’t avoid

Underwood, Underwood

Leave the world for Underwood

Leave the world? You know you would

To join the world of Underwood

Timeless and forgiving

The ageless wood still stands

In death the wood is living

No knowledge of urban land

The grey watcher is still watching

In every raindrop, in every leaf

Watching the tree stumps rotting

And eaten in a life given heap

Underwood, Underwood

Leave the world for Underwood

Leave the world? You know you would

To join the world of underwood

Everything is possible

Did you hear it when it fell?

No eyes of human knowledge

On these woods have ever fell

The entrance, gargoyle guarding

The watcher forever froze

Guarding his land from outsiders

On a daring duty held pose

Underwood, Underwood

Leave the world for Underwood

Leave the world? You know you would

To join the world of underwood

Slowly sneaking past the guarder

Free to enter but never leave

The world you dreamt as a child

No sense, just unbound dream

Floating without form

Through the roots and through the ground

Shrunk to the size of an atom

Mingling happily within every sound

Underwood, Underwood

Leave the world for Underwood

Leave the world? You know you would

To join the world of underwood

Sleeping within the earth

Within the life span of a tree

An age which passes out of time

Watching the watcher as the watcher watches me

Feeling the light of the raindrops

Instantly exploring the clouds at it’s birth

Falling through the sky to the treetops

And back to the warm giving earth

Underwood, Underwood

Leave the world for Underwood

Leave the world? You know you would

To join the world of underwood

Feeding the seed that dropped from the tree

Planted in the earths ready womb

Bursting toward the heat giving sun

And reaching back out to the moon

Feeding the seed that dropped from the tree?

Planted in the earths ready womb?

But how does It burst to the heat giving sun?

And what is this shiny bright moon?

Underwood, Underwood

You Left the world for overwood

Leave the world? He knew you would

To join the world of adulthood

Sit here in the window

Mind drifts into the void

A UNIVERSE CREATED

And in a blink it is destroyed

Author's Notes/Comments:

This poem is about the innocence of when we were children, when we start asking questions and learning as we grow older the illusion that everything is possible is broken.
Underwood represents a place where I would go as a child and play, at this point I hadn’t learnt that there were boundaries that you couldn’t cross, the watcher is time always with us., it can be a friend to some but an enemy to others.
