She was born a rebel child
Alive to the sense of wonder
Soaking up all in sight
Ever ready for adventure
Their efforts to tame her were shortlived
She would obey the command
And stretch the leash to wander
Over to forbidden land
When in a fury she was thrown out
She took on the world with that power
Willing to challenge every trial
Though as innocent as a flower
"This was the lot I was given,"
She shouted into the night air
"Watch me take it and trod underfoot
Giving to no battle a care."
True to her word she learned to survive
If none cared for her, why should she
Ever shrink from the shadows of night
Or cower from grim streets?
Spontaneous, they called her, independent too
Yet strong in the hottest fight
She took on the world and made it work for her
From breaking dawn to after midnight
Perhaps you admire my confidence, sir
Or my strength in the midst of fiery flame
That is what has gotten me here
The very nature you now blame
I will bend for you, I want to please you
To sacrifice for you I will
But you must know that here on my own
My tried system works still
I respect your advice, it's very sound
But realize you haven't lived in my shoes
My methods are tried and proven
From my experiences these past 2 years
Yes there is certainly room for me
To improve and to grow
That you'll be beside me to aid me in that
Is something I know
So for tonight, know that I
Respect you for all your advice
I love you with all my heart
And look forward to being your wife.
