From Key West, she rose with a rooted flame,
Her Nassau lineage steady in her stride;
Through rail-yard grit, she carved a storied name,
Where steel forged strength she’d never hide.
In Liberty City, widowed—yet unbowed—
She built a home where grieving hearts got rest;
A pillar standing tall, her people proud,
A matriarch her city came to trust.
The first Black woman on Miami’s board,
She shaped new laws with courage tried by fire;
She saved the Lyric, archival rights restored,
And raised the culture to a higher choir.
Athalie Range—to every age and mind
We vow to keep her legacy forever enshrined.
