THE SEA'S CONSTANT LULLABIES

The sea's constant lullabies
.. murmuring waves and seagull cries

MOON ABORNING

First the moon aborning.
Now she has just risen.
We all breathe in her light
and to her stillness listen.

OBSTINACY

I am obstinate, Oh God.
I want my own way.
Let surrender to Your will
be as easy and joyful
as the St Lawrence flowing
into Atlantic waters.

VERMILION

The sweet cochineal bug
is defined by some humans as vermin,
the same people who kill him
for his dye vermilion.

THORNS OF THE ROSE

It is not the beetles
stitching in the velvet
rose who are harmed by
her thorns
but those who've
from the lifegiving rosebush
her shorn

COLD PREMEDITATED JUDICIAL MURDER

Is it worse to shoot someone in
hot jealous alcohol affected passion
or to kill someone with the gavel and pen
from a judicial bench in cold premeditated
murderous fashion

As a bomber does not see the babies burned,
the old women blinded, the dogs smashed,

the orange groves decimated by the
bombs he drops, so judges rarely if ever go
into the execution or torture chambers.
For them the killing remains an abstraction
as for their victims life ends in seizures
and contractions.

THE VACANT LOT

A monochrome green...
a crewcut plane
is the average lawn.
Unlike the vacant lot,
it has no sapling trees,
few buzzing bees,
no skyblue chicory
no babies hickory
no purple pendant clover
lamps the sidewalk
hanging over.
It is the lawn and not
the lot which is vacant.

TV

For sixty years our tv
was free was free
until to rich companies
bowed the FCC.
For four years now
from tv I've been free..
free of the garish ads
promoting lethal drugs,
cow cadavers, unneeded rugs.
Cop shows, violence,
sensuality.
Televangelists shill for
babybombers..
They name it spirituality.
Our airwaves have been
for pennies sold
while plutocrats from ads
have made billions in gold.
Our airwaves are
bloodied with
propaganda for war.
The voices of peace
are blocked from the door.

In the US 55% are unregistered to vote. Of the remaining 45% (even less this
year), 3/5 are independent or third party. of the remaining 18%, less than half
are Republicans. Yet this small number are given 1/3 of CSpan's phone lines,

For many years, people have been able to record movies from tv for home viewing.
Now Greed Incorporated, the telecommunications industry, is making that
difficult as well.

The US has the world's fattest people , partly because there are more food ads
on our tv's than those of any other country, partly because of fast food ads
and animaleating.

Why should international pharmaceutical companies be allowed to advertise drugs
which cause heart attacks, strokes, lethal kidney and liver damage ad infinitum.

To pledge allegiance to any but God is
to have conflicting masters.
